Hampton and Richmond now six games without a win in the National League South after home loss to Dartford FC.

Hampton and Richmond Borough FC 0 – 1 Dartford

Dartford’s Charlie Sheringham scored a fourteenth minute header in a game of wasted chances at the Beveree.

After the crushing late defeat to Oldham in the FA Cup on Monday night Hampton couldn’t turn around their fortunes in the league.

The Beavers are now without a win in six games in the National League South and drop to seventeenth position.

Sheringham’s header came after a mistake at the back allowed Andre Coker to cross in from the left side to find the unmarked Dartford striker.

Coker was involved for much of Dartford’s attacking play throughout. Ten minutes after Sheringham’s goal - Dartford nearly doubled their lead - when Hampton’s Yado Mambo headed onto his own post from another Coker cross.

The best chance of the game for the Beavers fell to Tyrell Miller-Rodney who had a clear cut chance to equalise just before half time. He could only drag his shot wide of the Dartford post.

In the second half Hampton had to soak up some early pressure from Dartford. Miller-Rodney again came close when a long range effort, against the run of play, struck Dartford’s left post.

With just over fifteen minutes to go Coker was involved again for Dartford. After being put through on the Hampton goal by Jordan Wynter his lobbed effort went clearly over Tom Lovelock’s bar.

Hampton and Richmond started to look the better side as the second half progressed. Chris Dickson came close to an equaliser again for the Beavers but his close range shot was cleared off the line by Dartford’s Elliott Bradbrook.

In the closing stages Coker had another chance for Dartford when Mambo slipped in his own box. Nathan Mavila this time came to Hampton’s rescue with a good block to deny Coker his goal.

Both teams had their chances in this one. Unfortunately the Beavers couldn’t find a way to equalise and Dartford took home a hard earned three points.

Hampton and Richmond Manager, Gary McCann, said after the game,

“We could see that the willing and effort was there. But we’re just lacking that little bit of quality and composure that just comes with confidence.”

The Beavers next game is at home against league leaders, Billericay Town, in the FA Trophy next Saturday at 3.p.m.
