Bore Draw at the Beveree
Maidenhead United may feel they deserved more from the game but in truth 0-0 was a fair result as Hampton & Richmond Borough picked up another point at the Beveree as they fight to stay in the Blue Square Bet South.
The home side started the game the better of the two sides, testing United goalkeeper Billy Lumley early on and Hampton defender Dean Inman going close from a header.
Hampton continued to pile the pressure on and after a fine ball down the line from Inman, Charlie Moone’s first time cross was headed by Dave Tarpey, only for Lumley to save. From the resulting corner, Maidenhead failed to pick up their men and Lumley pulled off a fine fingertip save to keep his side in the game.
Moone missed a decent chance to open the scoring before the away side began to get a foothold in the game with a few half chances.
United’s Charlie Strutton delivered a teasing cross but no-one was able to get onto the end of it and Alex Wall hit the crossbar from the right hand side of the box with a cross/shot.
The away side forwards continued to trouble Hampton’s Darren Powell and the defender was lucky to stay on the pitch when a flailing arm hit Wall in the face, Powell only picking up a yellow.
At half-time, Maidenhead manager Johnson Hippolyte apparently told his players to pressure Powell and they continued to do so, the ball constantly being pumped long towards the Hampton centre-half.
A few minutes into the second-half, Moone had the best chance of the match. The ball fell kindly to the Hampton player in the box but his shot was straight at Lumley who suffered a bloody nose for his efforts. From the resulting corner, fullback Neil Jenkins hit the crossbar.
After Wall’s shot was well saved by goalkeeper Craig Ross, the ball fell to substitute Manny Williamz. With the goal at his mercy, Williamz looked to have been brought down from behind but the referee gave a corner to the frustration of Hippolyte and the travelling supporters.
Maidenhead continued to push on but with the game being continually stopped for fouls from both sides, they were unable to sustained periods of pressure.
With two minutes to go of the 90, Tarpey was sent off for an off the ball incident. Hampton felt Maidenhead should have been down to ten men when in injury time, Hampton captain Lewis Ferrell appeared to have been elbowed in the face but with the referee not seeing the incident he could only book the Maidenhead player.
With seconds to go, Reece Tison-Lascaris thought he had won the tie for the away side but he scuffed his shot wide after being found by Wall’s flick on.
