HAMPTON & Richmond Borough are hoping Championship side Portsmouth are feeling charitable and give them something for Dan Thompson's imminent move to the south coast.
Pompey, whose initial move for the young Hampton striker stalled last month, have come back in for Thompson, and are set to sign him this week.
But Thompson, who has also attracted interest from the likes of Liverpool, Stoke, Crystal Palace and QPR this season, is not under contract at Beveree and can leave for nothing.
Beavers boss Mark Harper said: “Dan had a week with Portsmouth just before Christmas and he's not been back, so were guessing he's been told not to risk injury ahead of signing. They are definitely interested, and we have been officially approached.
“However, Dan is not under contract, despite our best efforts to get him to sign something. We will have to see if Portsmouth support us in some way, whether financially or through a pre-season friendly.
“I always like to see our young players progress, but with us having invested so much time and effort into developing Dan over the years, it will be a real kick in the teeth if we get nothing.”
