Weekend Round up 10th September

By Stefan Rance

Round up of the first weekend's action for our Youth Section. This article appeared in the Potters Bar FA Cup programme.

The magic of the FA Cup, that first step towards Wembley always has a special feel when kick off comes around. Many of our Youth Teams had the feeling this past weekend as the Surrey Youth League kicked off for all age groups from Under 9 up. As always there were plenty of goals and action across our main venues on Sunday, with 1 game taking place on the Saturday, something which will become more common place this year.

Kicking off the season on the Saturday were the Under 11 Youth who beat Old Isleworthians Whites 3-0 in their first 9 aside fixture. A brace of goals from Jack Lay and one from Tommy Rance kicked off the season in style. Sticking with the Under 11’s on the Sunday the Colts had a great 13-3 win over Hook with Max Sturton grabbing 5 goals and there was also a debut goal for Nate Niedzwiecki.

There was a hat-trick of wins for the Under 10’s this week with the Colts leading the way with a 16-0 win at Walton Casuals rockets. The Bucks defeated Lyne Topcats 5-1 with Kye Procter netting 2 on on his first game for the club, Joe Morris, Owen Kimber and Enis Nezeri also scoring. Finally the Stags defeated Halliford Colts 6-3 with Alfie Robert picking up a hat-trick. Harry Clark with two and Felix Lancy completing the scoring.

Our Under 9’s played their first 7 aside games this week and Elks started with a fine 6-1 win over Bedfont Eagles with Fletcher Booth and George Rayner scoring 2 each Tom McMonogal and Max McGregor completing the scoring. The Bucks lost 5-3 at home to Kew Association Lions and the Stags also lost 5-3 at Spelthorne Sports Colts, Freddie Morris scoring twice in that game.

The Under 12’s played their first ‘Competitive’ match at home to Rocks Lane in the Championship Division and came away with a solid 5-1 victory. Jake Coley-Kail scoring twice and there was another debut goal, this time for Jack Enenche. The Under 13 Youth played their first 11 aside game and despite only having 9 players available came away with a credible 3-1 defeat at Sheen Lions. Omar al Waedi scoring the goal. The Under 13 Knights kicked off with a 2-0 win over Esher Wizard Blues a combination of Arvin Zhouba and Leo Kinchin claiming the 1st goal and Owen Reed finishing things off.

The Under 14 Youth started the season with 4 new players and were unlucky in a narrow 2-0 defeat to Met Police Youth Whites, however the Under 14 Colts had a fine 5-1 win over Kew Park Rangers, Alessandro Russell hitting 4 in the victory. The Under 15 Youth started their Premier Elite campaign with a 5-2 win over Kingstonian Youth Royals and there was another win for the Under 15 Colts with a 3-1 victory over Kew Association Colts. Finally the Under 16 Youth had a narrow 2-1 defeat at met Police Youth Blues.

Tomorrow sees a full set of fixtures as our Under 7’s and Under 8’s start their season and there are kick offs for the Surrey County Girls & Women’s League and Surrey Primary league where we have representatives at Under 16 and Under 18.

Good luck to Dowse and the team today on their first steps to Wembley!
