A late screamer sees Hampton earn a point

A late comeback on a wet day ensured the point for Hampton & Richmond Borough U19’s against a tough Bognor Regis Town FC side at Hanworth Villa.

Hampton felt Bognor’s presence in the match early on. In the 2nd minute, Bognor scored a goal following a free kick however it was offside. A couple of minutes later Bognor’s Liam Brady had an effort on goal which hit the post.
Hampton’s first chance of the game fell to Joshua Gwam, a low driven shot to the left of the goal was collected by Bognor’s keeper, James Pulper.
20 minutes into the game Bognor had been dominating. They asserted their dominance by making it 1-0. Hampton’s Rron Syleymani wasn't able to clear the high ball that came in the box. Oliver Hambelton latched onto the ball and fired it in from close range.
A great save from Pulper stopped a powerful Yusuf Razzaq shot and the chance for Hampton to level the game.
Both teams put their defensive display on show, with both teams defending well to stop key chances. Hampton’s Dylan Wright made some crucial tackles and clearances, along with Kayden Archibald.
Bognor’s Oliver Humphries had been tearing up the left-hand side of the pitch, having a few chances. He came close when left opened down the wing, running into the box at an angle his shot just went wide of the far post.
Half time came and it was Bognor who were in control so far, having the majority of chances whilst also defending well. Hampton made a substitute at halftime, with Razzaq coming off for Abu Allie.
Both teams had some chances in the first 10 minutes of the second half, with both keepers being called into action. However, it was Bognor that were able to make their chances count. Joseph Clarke runs a distance with the ball, shrugging off defenders. Clarke shot from inside the box to make it 2-0
Hampton made another substitute with George Slotie coming off for Sid Thompson.
Both teams again had some crucial chances, with most chances going wide. Gawm had a chance when the ball was high in the air, both Gwam and Pulper went for the ball. Gawm headed the ball towards the goal, going behind the keeper. However, Bognor was able to collect the ball.
Gwam managed to make it 2-1 in the 83rd minute from a perfectly weighted through ball from Archibald. Gwam latched onto it and found the back of the net.
Hampton kept on applying the pressure in the last 5 minutes of the game, knowing they could gain a point.
The last kick of the game, Hampton was awarded a free kick from 30 yards out. Archibald stood over the free kick and rifled it into the top left-hand corner to make it 2-2. An outrageous goal. Archibald put all he could into that shot, hurting himself from cramp as soon as the ball left his foot. Passion.
Full time, Hampton 2-2 Bognor. Hampton dug in deep to get a point against a very good Bognor side.
