Without manager Leah for Sunday's game the ladies faced a tough game against 2nd in the division Clapham United Reserves - but it didn't stop their good run.
The team travel to a very wet, windy and boggy Clapham Common to face Clapham United Reserves. So we knew this would be a difficult game for us and missing Leah proved to be a challenge for all players on and off the pitch.
The first half started well with us playing downhill giving us a lot of momentum but with the ball getting stuck in a lot of mud in the middle of the park we had to ensure that we were using the wings effectively. With our new signing Terri Harper starting upfront, it gave us another option to allow Katie Foster to rest her injured ankles and gave us the opportunity to try something new. The hard work in the early few minutes of the game paid off when a solo run from April Riley down the left wing opened up a gap for her to get a shot off which beat the keeper but hit the post. Luckily Terri was in the right place at the right time to slot the ball into the back of the net on the 5th minute putting Hampton 1-0 up. Hampton continued to press in the first half with chances for Katie Foster, Louise Clarke and a few shots from kerry Celino but could not bury them into the net.
1-0 at half time and the Beavers were confident with the performance so far. Having taken notes from Leah before she went away the team made some changes to formation knowing that Clapham would do the same in order to get back in the game.
As expected Clapham came out fighting in the 2nd half putting pressure on the back four, to which they dealbt with solidly. Hampton 2nd came on the 50th minute when a long throw from Hayley Lyon met Lou Clarke who flicked the ball over the back four which was met by captain Lisa Traynor to fire the ball on the half volley into the back of the net. Almost immediately Clapham again applied the pressure to the Hampton back four forcing keeper Emma Marlow to make some saves. The pressure paid off an Clapham pulled one back on the 60th minute when a rare lapse in concentration allowed a cross to be played into the Hampton 6 yard box to an unmarked Clapham Striker who put the ball into the back of the net.
With the score at 2-1 both teams continued to have chances but Clapham could not find an equaliser and the game finished with a 2-1 with for Hampton. This means Hampton continue their league unbeaten run and put them 2nd in the table with a game in hand. With 4 home games coming up in Nov and Dec the Ladies team are looking to drum up as much support as possible and make the most of the home advantage!
