The Beavers played a physical game against the Bees and won their first league game of the season.

First team secure their first league victory of the season

Despite facingBrentford Ladies FC, a team that has recruited and expanded in size ahead of this season, the bees struggled to capitalize over the Beavers. The last time these two teams came face to face Hampton came away with a hard fought 2-1 win over the bees.

Sunday’s game was a very physical one with Hampton keen to get the league season off to a positive start, they were not going to make it easy for Brentford. Hampton dominated most of the first half with narrow chances from Foster, Underhill, Johnson and Lethbridge.

Keeper Jenna Morris was as solid as ever making a number of crucial saves for Hampton and leaving the game with another clean sheet. She is proving to be a very strong member of the team.

The first goal came eventually with a ball to Foster in the centre who split the bees back four with a through ball to Johnson running on to it. Johnson’s speed beat the defence to the ball and she calmly slotted it home to pick up the first goal on the score sheet.

With one goal on the board Hampton knew this was not enough with Brentford pushing back hard in the second half to try and equalise. But as much as they tried, Hampton absorbed the pressure well, with some great interceptions and tackles from the beavers defence, cutting out most of the Brentford attacks quite comfortably.

There were a number of dangerous attacks from both Hampton wingers, the beavers were struggling to hit the net and another close chance to score came from a Underhill corner off the head of Michelle Quinn narrowly missing the goal.
With some physical tackles coming in from Brentford as the match went on, one lead to a free kick, with Foster again, closely missed goal with a great shot.
But this was not the end as Hampton fought their way through, and the second goal finally came with Katie Foster and a great solo effort. After receiving a perfectly weighted pass, she played around the keeper and scored to get Hampton’s second.

The final goal of the game came from Stacey Johnson battling hard in the middle and some great link up play with Foster, whoagain broke through Brentford Defence with a great finish to kill the game off on the final whistle - 0-3.
New Signings Laura Miller and Lauren Campbell made their debut appearances for Hampton and both players made an impact.
Captain Katie Foster had this to say:

"Really please to come away with a solid three points from our opening league game of the season. We knew it would be tough playing on a pitch with planes overhead proving a distraction and very windy conditions, but we came out strong and scored 3 great team goals. Our new signings have definitely made their mark all with strong performances and each and every player gave it their all riht through to the final whistle. I'm excited for upcoming games once the team has really started to gel and the whole squad is looking stronger and strong each week. We now look forward to this Sundays FA cup game!"

Man of the match went to Laura Miller for her physicality, skill and finesse in her first game for the team.

Hampton now go on to face the Second round of the SSE Womens FA Cup up against the New London Lionesses. Game information to follow.
