Invincible Ladies team win again!
Sunday the ladies team beat Godalming Town to continue unbeaten league run
The Ladies team already had their hands on the League title but with two league games remaining the aim was to continue the unbeaten run for this season. With opponents Godalming Town still chasing second place in the league it was going to be a tough game but with the team in high spirits and positive about being able to face anyone in the league and to get a win from it.
The first half started solid for both teams with neither able to make the decisive break. Hampton’s back four were strong as always but with Godalming playing the ‘long ball’ game with some strikers up top, the Hampton back four were having to keep a deeper line than normal. 20minutes into the first half Godalming were awarded a questionable penalty as keeper Emma Marlow was deemed to take the player and not the ball, which the referee then admitted was not the case, Godalming were looking confident to take the lead. With 2 penalty shoot outs already under her belt this season, Emma guessed the right way saving the penalty and also getting back to her feet quickly to save the rebound which was creeping into the opposite post. Hampton also had their chances with some great play down the wings with Louise Clarke and Bianca Underhill it was only that all important finish that was missing from the Beavers game.
The second half started well for the Beavers with some more fire to ensure that they got the all-important goal to win the game and continue the winning run. The Beavers break came on 50th minute when Kim Duffin took a corner on the right side of the pitch. The corner was deflected on the front post from a Godalming defender, the ball was controlled by Sharna Longville on her chest for her to volley into the back of the net. A well worked goal and a great time in the match to give Hampton the advantage. Despite a strong back 4 and some great saves by Emma, Godalming found an equaliser on the 65th minute putting the game all square. This did not dampen the beavers spirits, Hampton pushed to get that all important second goal. This goal came on 75th minute when Kerry Celino put a quality through ball into the feet of Louise Clarke who beat the keeper to the ball slotting it past her to put Beavers 2-1 up.
Hampton’s solid performance gave the beavers another win to keep them 11 points top of the league and continue their unbeaten league run with only 1 league game remaining on 26th April. With Hampton facing Camden Town in the John Greenacre Cup next week it will be a very tough challenge for the team but with spirits high and the entire team working hard, anything is possible!
