Beavers triumpth in clash of titans
Hampton come out on top in top of the table clash to go 6 points clear and still unbeaten
On Sunday the Ladies team took to the pitch at Kew AFC for their top of the table clash with rivals Chobham Burymead. With Chobham’s pitch being unplayable we travelled to Kew AFC to play this clash. This was a big game for both teams, Hampton wanting to go 6 points clear at the top of the table and Chobham wanting to become level on points.
With midfielder Bianca Underhill joining us from Chobham, the team was prepared for a battle in this game and so came out fighting from the kick off. With the rain coming down quite heavy, the middle of the pitch was becoming quite boggy which forced Hampton to use the wings. This worked to the Beavers advantage with Bianca Underhill and Louise Clarke making some superb runs down both wings. The Hampton break came with a solid run down the left wing from Louise Clarke, Louise took on two defenders to find Katie Foster just inside the box. Kate got control of the ball and struck it left footed into the bottom right of the keeper. 1-0 up Hampton were in control of the game and looked strong in attack and defence. The Beavers 2nd came from some good strong midfield play down the centre of the park from Terri Harper and Lisa Traynor. The ball was played into the feet of Striker Katie Foster who spotted the run from Bianca Underhill down the right wing. The pass was spot on and allowed Bianca to power into the Chobham box and get a shot off which found the back of the net, a very meaningful goal from the former Chobham player.
At 2-0 the Beavers were looking strong with the team remaining strong in the back line and the midfield doing a sterling job in their defensive and attacking duties. There was even a spectacular overhead kick from striker Katie Foster, all that was missing was the power to beat the keeper. Hampton’s 3rd goal came just before half time when another superb Louise Clarke run down the left wing found Katie Foster on the edge of the box. Without hesitation Katie fired a shot hard and low into the bottom left corner which beat all the Chobham defenders and keeper putting the beavers 3-0 up at half time.
With the rain continuing to fall the second half was not pretty. Hampton looked slightly sluggish and were unable to play their usual football with the ball on the floor. This meant that Chobham could get back in the game. Chobham got 2 goals back in the second half with the Hampton defence slipping up, losing concentration and letting the Chobham strikers in on goal. The second half brought some tough challenges including some questionable tackles, one in particular was a studs up tackle on keeper Emma Marlow, thankfully no one was seriously injured during the game.
This win takes Hampton 6 points clear at the top of the table with 4 league games to play. Next week the team face Godalming who are currently sitting in 3rd place in the league. The following week, 8th March, Hampton are once again faced with the challenge of playing Chobham again. A big game for both teams but the next two wins are vital for Hampton and could determine the league title.
