Double strike from the duo signings
Ladies Team secure another 3 points with 2 goals from new signings
On a chilly Sunday afternoon the Ladies team took to the field at Tooting Bec Common to face a 3rd place Balham Panthers. The last time these two teams set at the start of the season the Beavers came away with a 3-1 win and would be looking to do the same this time around. Manager Leah was away on her UEFA B course and so the team was left to fend for themselves with Leah’s instructions and guidance given to Captain and Vice Captain.
The game started quite slow with neither team able to play the ball on the floor due to a muddy pitch. After a couple of half chances for Balham the Beavers fought back and on the 30th minute a through ball from Kee Kee Kobus found the feet of Louise Clarke just outside the area, two touches later the ball was in the back of the net putting Hampton 1-0. The rest of the second half remained stagnant with both Hampton and Balham only creating half chances, this meant the score line remained 1-0 at half time.
Balham started the second half on top when a corner on the 50th minute was bundled into the goal putting the score line at 1-1. This was a big wake up call for the Beavers, knowing that they could not drop any points they were soon on the attack again. A slight change in positioning meant that new signing Sharna Longville was moved from Right Back to Central Midfield and Hayley Lyon took her place in the back four. New signings Melika Banton and Sharna Longville were both showing potential in the central and right side of midfield with a lot of attacking play. Hampton took the lead again on the 70th minute when some good link up play on the edge of the box from Louise Clarke and Katie Foster found Lisa Traynor on the right wing to cross the ball into the box finding the head of Melika Banton. At 2-1 the Beavers were now cruising, the back four of Becky Payne, Emily Hogg, Louise Harris and Hayley Lyon remained strong leaving keeper Emma Marlow very little to do. The third and final goal came when some great play down the left wing from Louise Clarke and Katie Foster allowed Kee Kee Kobus to get a shot off 10 yards out. The shot was blocked by the defender and fall to the feet of Sharna Longville, 6 yards out she wasn’t going to miss and fired the ball into the back of the net at 85mins.
It was a challenging game for Hampton but the team battled hard. Despite her absence Leah said: “We are showing some fantastic performances at the moment. My team are showing great commitment and working very hard at training and this is now paying off on the pitch.”
“We are taking each game as it comes in the league and focusing on the team we are playing on that Sunday. We have some tough games to come against teams who will want take points of us, to either stay up or pile on the pressure on us at the top of the table.”
“Our next game is a cup game against a team two divisions higher than us at Hurlingham Park, Fulham.”
“Thank you ladies for all the fantastic work you are putting in for me and should be very proud of yourselves.”
