Top of the league for Christmas, the perfect present for Manager Leah Ambridge!
Ladies Team grab another 7 goals securing Top spot at Christmas
Sunday 14th December saw Hampton Ladies travel to face Colne Valley on a cold yet sunny day. Looking to continue their unbeaten run in the league and secure that top spot for the league Christmas break.
The game started well for the Beavers who took the lead within the first 5minutes through a Kate Foster screamer which deflected off the Colne defender and spun over the keepers head. With the score at 1-0 after a very quick start the game seemed to slow with the pitch playing a big part in the game. With Lou Clarke back from injury and starting on the left wing, we were able to put in some dangerous crosses into the box stretching the Colne back four to its maximum. Hampton found their second goal on the 20th minute when a Lisa Traynor shot was caught on the line by a Colne defender giving the Beavers a penalty. Up stepped Kate Foster to calmly slot the ball to the keepers right securing hers and Hamptons 2nd of the game. With Lou C coming off and Terri Harper coming on the left wing the Hampton strike force continued to pressure the Valley back four. The continued pressure paid off on the 32nd minute when Bianca Underhill took on 3 players down the right wing to play a ball into the box which found Terri at the back post to volley the ball into the back of the net for Hampton’s 3rd of the game. The first half was not over and the 4th came when a Becky Payne free kick just inside the Hampton half beat all of the Valley defenders to find Kate who ran the ball into the box to lob the outrushing Colne keeper. At half time Hampton lead the game 4-0.
A few changes at half time and an inspiring team talk from manager Leah Ambridge meant the team came out for the second half with an extremely positive frame of mind and determination to continue the goal run and secure the win in a convincing manner. After 10mins into the second half a solo run from Hayley Lyon down the middle of the park allowed her to get a shot off, the keeper spilled the shot which fell to the feet of Kate Foster who slotted the ball into the back of the Colne net. Hampton’s 6th of the game came from a Kim Duffin free kick which, much like Becky’s free kick in the first half, was lofted over the Valley back four to find the onside Kee Kee Kobus who saw the onrushing Colne keeper but calmly chipped the ball over the top of the stranded keeper. The final and 7th goal saw a run from Fran Acharya down the right wing, Fran looked to find Lou C in the box only for her cross to be deflected off the Colne defender and into the net (but we will give it to you Fran!).
The final whistle blew with a 7-0 win for the Beavers and a solid performance all round. The Hampton strike force was on top form in this game and the back found had very little to do in this game. This puts Hampton top of the league, 3 points ahead of Chobham who drew this weekend. Next Sunday sees the team travel to Enfield to play Enfield Town reserves in the John Greenacre Memorial Trophy, Enfield are currently one division above the Beavers, however with the excellent form the team is currently in Leah is sure that it will be a tough and well fought game.
