Ladies Team tops the table after another solid win!
Hampton and Richmond Borough Ladies FC 4 V 0 London Phoenix
With manager Leah Ambridge away on one of her UEFA B assessments, the team were left to fend for themselves with the instructions left by Leah. After the emotional game in the cup the week before, the team was looking to build on this solid team performance and close down on the top spot. The match started strong for the Beavers when we managed to break the deadlock after only 8minutes, a skilful run down the right wing allowed Bianca Underhill to play the cross into the box to find Terri Harper on the back post to volley the ball straight into the net from a few yards out.
Building on this current momentum the team continued to press high up the pitch meaning that any tactic Phoenix tried to play through the Hampton back four was found by an offside flag. The continued pressure on the Phoenix back four paid off when Hayley Lyon played the ball into Bianca Underhill 20yards out from goal, Bianca turned on her first touch and on her second hit the ball sending it straight over the keeper and into the back of the net. A superb finish from Bianca in only her second game for the Beavers, but there was still more to come in the first half. Becky Payne took a throw in on the left wing which found striker Kate foster on the edge of the box, a skilful little dummy allowed Kate to take the ball around the last Phoenix defender and slot the ball inside the right post. 3-0 at half time showed the great strike force we have in midfield and upfront, but also showed the great strength in the back found with Louise Harris filling in for Allie Simmonds at Centre Back.
With keeper Emma Marlow not having to make a save in the first half the back four had a slight change with Allie coming on and Louise pushing back out to left back. The break meant that Phoenix came out with more drive and determination but the Hampton back four remained solid. Substitutions being made meant that Kee Kee Kobus, Fran Acharya and Candice Hayward would now join the strike force of the midfield to try and get that 4th goal. On the 60th minute a fantastic solo run from Bianca Underhill down the right wing soon saw her powering into the box, taking on 3 defenders and slotting the ball past the keeper at the far post. A final substitution for the Beavers saw Mel Craft come on in place of Kim Duffin at right back. With the team remaining strong Phoenix made a couple of substitutions bringing on another striker who managed to find a break in the defence which was both times met by a save from Emma Marlow.
The game finished 4-0 to Hampton, with Leah not on the sideline, this was a good solid performance and a win that puts us top of the league (even if it is because we have played one more game).
