A strong performance and great strength of character ensure Hampton’s unbeaten league run continues.
After the Denham Cup defeat last week the ladies came into the game ready to win and with great crowd support from Right Back and Teacher Kim Duffin’s kids and lots of friends and family.
From the first whistle of the game our girls pressured the ball, closing down players and not allowing Balham to have any time on the ball. Within the first 10 minutes we were on top of the game creating a few chances; however we could not break through the Balham defence. The pressure paid off and the break came on the 22nd minute when Lou Clarke beat the left back to hit a ball across the box, only for the ball to fly straight over the keeper into the back of the net. 1-0 up and Hampton looked strong with our midfield holding the play up and the defence breaking down any chances Balham looked like they may have. On the 30th minute Hayley Lyon looked to get her 2nd of the season with a left footed strike which went just over the bar. The pressure continued with some great runs down the wing from April Riley and Lou Clarke but Hampton couldn’t capitalise in the box. Balham’s equaliser came on the 40th minute when a 10 yard strike hit the inside of the post and fell to the striker who slotted the ball home. At half time the score remained 1-1 but with a lot of positives Hampton went into the break determined to make the most of the great football they had been playing.
Hampton continued with the great football after half time with more chances for Hampton’s strikers and midfield players. Hampton’s second came from Katie Foster playing an accurate pass to Lou Clarke who whipped the ball across the 18 yard box which was met just as perfectly by April Riley’s header. At 2-1 Hampton continued to press but Balham also began to play some good football playing the long ball through our back four but was met by keeper Emma Marlow 20 yards out. The next 15minutes saw Balham pick up momentum putting Hampton’s back four under some pressure however some great defending by Lou Harris, Emily Hogg, Allie Simmonds and Kim Duffin ensured they kept Balham out. Any shots that Balham were allowed to get off were equally met by Emma Marlow, making some double saves to keep Hampton ahead.
Hampton’s third and final goal came from a great ball from Lisa Traynor who was met by Fran Acharya, only for her shot to be deflected out for a corner. Right back Kim Duffin stepped up to take the corner which went straight to the keeper who thumbled the cross and putting it into the net. After this goal put Hampton 3-1 up Balham began to try and push Hampton back to get their second goal but any shots or one on one opportunities were met by some great saves from Emma Marlow who kept Hampton in the lead and finishing the game with a 3-1 win.
Man of the Match goes to Emma Marlow a strong performance in goal making some fantastic saves.
Managers Report : Great Strong Performance from the team back 5 keep well-disciplined shape and the girls not giving up until the final whistle great strikes from April and Lou C.
