During that time, he has saved us from relegation to the Isthmian Division One South, then promptly led the team to the Isthmian Premier title.
In two subsequent seasons in the National League South, we have qualified each time for the play-offs, and only last Sunday we were quite literally a penalty kick away from being promoted to the highest level in the club’s history.
Dowse has been one of the club’s most successful managers and arguably the most popular for his work as an ambassador in the community.
His success on the field has quite naturally attracted the interest of other clubs, though he has shown commendable loyalty to Hampton.
The chance to return our neighbours Woking to the National League, however, has proved a particular lure and Dowse will begin work at Kingfield this week as their new manager.
He was able to activate a release clause in his contract, which will partly compensate Hampton for his loss.
It goes without saying he will always be a most welcome visitor and he retains strong friendships with staff, volunteers and supporters here at The Beveree.
The task now is to appoint a suitable successor, and the club will be advertising the vacancy on the National League website and in Sunday’s Non-League Paper.
Applicants are being asked to send CVs to the club secretary on firstname.lastname@example.org
