Another draw sends Beavers to first round of playoffs

A rare Jack Cook goal saves Beavers, and settles them into 4th place and a return match...

Hampton came from a goal down to salvage yet another draw but with Chelmsford winning, they had to settle for 4th place and a midweek game in the League's elimination round of the playoffs.

Truro got the best possible start in their quest to try and get a home game in the next round, Tom Owen-Evans forcing the ball past keeper Seny Dieng following some slack defending in not dealing with a long throw effectively.

Rocked by such an early goal, the Beavers found it hard to get back into the game and Andrew Neal was proving to be a thorn in their side, the striker going close on a couple of occasions before forcing Dieng to make a save just before half time.

With seconds before the break, Bradley Hudson-Odoi produced a rare moment of excellence with a powerful shot which grazed the Truro crossbar as it went over.

As the second half got underway, Hampton were looking more like the team that won last week, as they started to run at the White Tigers, and started to look the better team. Both Brendan Kiernan and Hudson-Odoi had chances either drifting wide or being blocked.

Eventually the Beavers got their reward as just after the hour as defender Jack Cook’s header found its way into the net from Josh Casey's corner.

Hampton then proceeded to push on as the Truro defence held firm; inside the last 10 minutes, the Beavers pressure almost paid off as an attempt by Charlie Wassmer had to be hacked away in front of goal, before Taurean Roberts shot from the rebound was blocked.

Despite their best efforts, the Beavers couldn’t find a way through and in the final minute, Truro keeper Joseph Wollacott had to make a great save to deny Taurean Roberts the honour of grabbing the winner and the advantage.

Results elsewhere then meant that the Beavers immediately knew their playoff opponents as Truro finished up in 7th place and therefore will make a return to Beveree on Wednesday night.
