Kabamba pair give Beavers Wings
Finally, a home win for the Beavers, at the expense of a grounded Welling side who looked destined for a relegation battle on this performance
Hampton rediscovered how to win at home with what turned out to be a comfortable victory over struggling Welling team.
The Beavers had an early shot from Kiernan saved by Girling, before the half descended into a struggle in midfield, only broken by Bishop having to be alert to block a header from Waldren midway through the half.
Hampton came out with greater purpose after the break and soon took the lead. On 56 minutes, a Christian Jolley cross to the near post saw Wings keeper Girling having to block a shot in the 6 yard area, the rebound fell to Nicke Kabamba who tapped it home from close range.
5 minutes later, the Beavers weren't as decisive in defence as perhaps they should be, which allowed Coombes time to try an outrageous lob from the far angle of the box. Thankfully, it looped across goal and bounced well wide of the post
Less than 5 minutes after Coombes' attempt, it would two to the Beavers as Nicke Kabamba took advantage of a piece of good fortune to beat the static Wings defence.
A ball into the box hit a Welling defender, and looped into the path of Kabamba who beat Girling one-on-one to prod the ball home. The Wings defenders protested to both referee and assistant about the decision, thinking Kabamba offside, but the goal stood with Hayles being booked for his comments.
With 15 minutes to go, the Beavers made it three as Jamal Lowe finished off a neat move between himself and Josh Casey, striking home from the edge of the box after the first attempt was blocked.
Welling won a penalty 5 minutes later as substitute Christian Nanetti went down in the box under a challenge from Harold Odametey.
Adam Coombes stepped up to fire the ball past Bishop to give the Wings a glimmer of light but Hampton held firm and looked more likely to score again; Nicke Kabamba having a great chance to register his hat-trick but the shot, although hit cleanly, flew just over the bar.
