Lowe strike not enough for Beavers
By Rob Overfield
Jamal Lowe's 66th minute crisp long-range volley was not enough to earn the Beavers the win in their first visit to Privett Park and they had to settle for a point at the end of the night.
On the field, the only change was Joe Hicks coming off the bench to replace Jay Gasson in the starting lineup.
In a game that promised the possibility of a few goals, it was a cagey start, with only ex-Beaver Ben Wright's shot threatening the Hampton goal in the first 10 minutes.
As the half wore on, the Beavers started to create a few chances; Joel Solomon and Jamal Lowe both hitting shots at Gosport keeper Martin Rice but it took until the 29th minute for Hampton to create a clear opening, Lowe having a clear sight of goal but lifted his attempt over the bar.
The Beavers survived a major scare 5 minutes before the break as Warren Bentley broke through the centre of the defence, Joe Hick managing to get a challenge in to force the ball away.
With the half almost over, it was all hands on deck for Hampton as Aaron Dawson's corner for the hosts clipped the bar and the ball had to be scrambled clear.
The Beavers opened the second half better with Brendan Kiernan's strike forcing a good save by Rice and then just after the hour, Leon Soloman's shot from distance only just cleared the bar.
The goal wasn't long in coming for Hampton and it was a goal worthy of winning the game.
On 66 minutes, Nicke Kabamba cushioned a header back down out of the box towards Jamal Lowe, who hit the ball on the volley from some 25 yards out. A clean strike, it flew through the crowded box and into the right hand side of the net, leaving Rice stranded.
Gosport hit back just 5 minutes later, as Dan Wooden hit a powerful swerving shot from 20 yards out, which gave Aaron Howe no chance in the Hampton goal.
The Beavers kept threatening, Lowe's free kick with just over 10 minutes to go just went over the bar as they managed to keep the hosts away from Howe's goal.
Deep in added time, the Beavers looked like they'd snatched the points as Jamal Lowe scrambled the ball into the Gosport net, but it was ruled out for handball, leaving the points shared.
