Wealdstone raided by Beavers

The Beavers continued their great start to the season with a comprehensive 4-2 victory over Wealdstone.

They took the lead in the 8th minute as Brendan Kiernan's surging run from midfield was not stopped and his shot from the edge of the box gave North no chance in the Stones goal. One of the best goals you'll see from a Beavers player this season!

Leon Solomon then had a great chance from the edge of the box after Christian Jolley had made a great run down the right, but the midfielder's shot was well over the bar.

The Beavers were looking seriously threatening and they made it 2-0 not long after but from a non-standard source!

On 22 minutes, a Josh Casey free kick was not dealt with by the home team, and as the ball came out following a melee, Jay Gasson was able to place a very tidy, controlled finish into the bottom corner.

The lead lasted barely a minute as Eddie Oshodi got one back for the hosts. A long range free kick was not held by Aaron Howe, the ball came loose and after it pinballing around the area, the defender was in the right position to stab it home.

On 37 minutes, Brendan Kiernan created a great chance for Jamal Lowe but his first time shot screwed across goal.

It was obvious there would be more goals in the match and the 2 goal lead was back in place just before the break; Kiernan played a sharp ball into Lowe, who was lurking around the centre of the box, his shot on the spin gave North little chance for 3-1. This meant Jamal scored in his 5th consecutive game, with his 6th goal of the season.

After the break, Wealdstone started to show some fight and could so easily have made it 3-2. 10 minutes in, Omar Koroma's powerfully struck free kick from about 25 yards crashed into the cross bar and it was cleared away.

A couple of minutes later, the Beavers produced one of the best passing moves you'll ever see. Starting from left back, the ball was passed accurately and quickly; within 30 seconds, and a half dozen or so passes later, Jamal Lowe was presented with a 1 on 1 on North but the keeper managed to block the shot with his trailing right foot.  It deserved a goal and if there had been a camera there, it would have been one of the greats of the season.

Jamal Lowe was starting to run riot and his cross on 69 minutes found a completely unmarked Nicke Kabamba at the back post; North spread himself to block the point blank header.

On 73 minutes, the Beavers won a penalty after Kabamba was bundled over in the box; Jelley's kick was struck well but North dived full length to block the shot.

Following a booking for Kabamba for a slightly late challenge, Wealdstone were given a free kick some 30 yards out; Matty Wichelow just lifted it into the box, but Howe was caught out, slightly out of position by the wickedly dipping free kick as it dropped over his head into the net and the Stones were given a lifeline.

It could have been a tense finish, but the Beavers kept it neat; Kabamba nearly got in on the end of a Lowe cross, but North was there to block from point blank range as the final whistle approached.

The keeper could do little 2 minutes later as the same combination saw Kabamba with a 1 on 1 with North, and the striker slotted home despite the keeper getting a touch on the ball.

In all seriousness, this could have been 5 or 6 to the Beavers, such was the way they were playing. They were sharper, using the pace of the forwards to close the defence down very quickly and compressing the midfield to give little or no space.

Bank Holiday Monday sees the Beavers return to Beveree to face Dartford, and that's a 3pm kick off.
