Dowse disappointed by Truro point

The Beavers clawed their way back from a two goal deficit to earn a point against a somewhat fortunate Truro side at Beveree.

Alan Dowson named an unchanged team from the one which faced Margate with a slight change in formation, Christian Jolley coming into the centre behind Nicke Kabamba and Jamal Lowe moving back out wide.

Hampton were rocked on 7 minutes as hotshot Andrew Neal took advantage of some slack defending to spin and clip a shot which left keeper Billy Bishop on the wrong foot as it flew into the net.

3 minutes later, it looked like the Beavers would be back on terms as Harold Odametey was felled in the box, leaving the referee with little option but to award the spot kick.

Nicke Kabamba stepped up to take the kick, but he'll be wishing he could have had it again as the attempt was lacking in power AND direction and it rolled past former pro keeper Adriano Basso's right hand post

Hampton were making light of the strong breeze and were creating chances almost at will as Brendan Kiernan and Kabamba had about a half dozen chances between them before half time.

However, the Beavers paid for NOT converting any of them as Truro took advantage of a defensive slip almost on the half time whistle..

A literal slip, as Odamatey in tracking back to pick up a long ball, found his feet going from under him as he tried to turn, he fell full length, and the chasing Neal immediately picked up the ball.

Neal advanced to the edge of the box and squared the ball to Niall Thompson who rifled the shot past Bishop to leave the Beavers with a lot of work to do.

They set to with some gusto as first Kabamba and then Jay Gasson had chances within the first 90 seconds; Kabamba's shot deflected wide for a corner, and Gasson's header over the bar from the cross.

With almost 10 minutes on the second half clock, Jamal Lowe had a great chance. A Josh Casey cross from the left found Lowe unmarked in the box, but his header ballooned over the cross bar, much to Basso's relief.

Lowe made amends with just over 20 minutes to go and he made it look easy.  Advancing to the edge of the box, Odametey's pass found him in space, and holding off the backtracking defender, he fired past Basso from 12 yards.

This boosted the Beavers and less than 10 minutes later, they equalised.

Josh Casey clipped over another cross from the left; the first time shot from Nicke Kabamba was half smothered by Basso, and as it rolled towards the net, Brendan Kiernan applied the decisive touch from less than a foot to make it 2-2.

Truro had one of their rare chances with Neal firing his shot over with less than 10 minutes to go, but neither side was able to pry open the respective defences in the last few minutes to force the decisive goal.

Speaking after the match, Dowse was clearly not happy about the point.

"If we keep defending like that, we'll not be going anywhere. It was more individual errors than a bad display, but it still wasn't good enough."

We also need to be taking our chances. We are creating them but not converting them. I know we've got 11 goals from 5 games but we can do better.
