Beavers steal points in late late rally
An astonishing finish at the QE II Stadium saw the Beavers snatch all 3 points, with late goals in added time from Dean Sinclair and Jerome Federico.
The Towners decided to have first use of the blustery wind behind them and Corey Whitely was first to test Mark Smith but the 30 yard free kick was straight at the keeper.
Hampton were served warning after 20 minutes when Harry Ottaway shot from the edge of the box flew just over the bar, after Whitely had made a good run down the left.
Enfield finally took the lead just after the half hour and the quality of the finish was undoubted. A corner from the far side was half cleared by the Hampton defence, Tyler Campbell was lurking on the edge of the area and his first time volley flew on the wind past Smith and into the net.
Ten minutes later, it was two to the home team as Vilcu's shot was blocked in the area, the rebound falling to Harry Ottaway and he finished calmly from 8 yards to give the home team the half time lead.
Hampton had to get back into the game fast and on 50 minutes, Nicke Kabamba was brought down in the area by keeper McDonald as the striker made a cross box run, chasing a ball into the area. Tom Jelley stepped up and confidently sent McDonald the wrong way to put the Beavers back into the game.
The Beavers weren't quite able to use the wind to their advantage and the hosts looked unlikely to be broken down again as Hampton won corners which they couldn't make use of.
Enfield had a couple of half chances through sub Joe Stevens, but it was the introduction of Dean Sinclair and Jerome Federico that would have far-reaching consequences as the game looked to be drifting away from the Beavers on the wind.
Injury time had just begun as Hampton won another corner, this time from the near side. Dean Sinclair sent it far out on the wind and it came back, evading everyone, before bouncing off the far post and an Enfield leg to end in the back of the net.
The Beavers were back in the game but they weren't finished just yet. Just 60 seconds from the restart, a clearance from McDonald hit one of his own men. As it rolled back towards the goal, Jerome Federico was quickest to react and as McDonald tried to get to the ball, the speedy Hampton winger just managed to get a poke at the ball to take it past the on-rushing keeper and send it rolling into the net.
This sparked excited celebrations from the Hampton bench, who almost to a man, tore down the touchline to engulf Federico; his alertness capping an astonishing win for the Beavers, which 5 minutes before had looked unlikely in the extreme.
