Vickers shot down by sharpshooting Beavers
Hampton marked up their second consecutive clean sheet in a week as they thumped VCD Athletic 4-0 at Beveree.
Alan Dowson named an unchanged side and after a tidy start, began to play the ball around the pitch with some comfort.
The visitors looked well organised and after Ricky Sappleton had bullied is way into the box only to it a tame shot at Mark Smith, it took until the 16th minute for the Beavers to pose a serious shot on target.
Jerome Federico battled his way into the box, and faced with a limited number of options, then scooped the ball up into the air over keeper Rob Budd. Budd had to frantically back-pedal to push it over the bar.
5 minutes later, Nicke Kabamba chased down a long ball, but his first time shot was blocked by Budd and the Beavers were finding it tough going.
On the half hour, they finally broke the deadlock as Brendan Kiernan chased down a long kick by Mark Smith; he gathered the ball just by the bye-line, and proceeded to hit a low cross back across goal. Having kept onside, Jerome Federico was lurking in front of goal to tap the ball home from close range.
Not long after, Tom Beere enhanced his growing reputation around TW12 with another great finish. A clearance out of the VCD area was just at the right height for him to chest the ball down and he lashed a stunning half volley at goal. It was too much for Budd, bouncing down off the bar and crossing the line as it bounced into the roof of the net.
Just before half time, Kiernan once more managed to clip a cross back across goal; it evaded the defence and once more, Federico was lurking with lethal intent in the 6 yard box to sidefoot home.
Hampton killed off the game just 3 minutes into the second half as they won a corner from a Brendan Kiernan shot. Josh Casey's corner was met in the 6 yard area by Kiernan, but the shot was straight at Budd, who parried the attempt. Unlucky for him, Kiernan was close by to force the ball into the net.
Midway through the half, Nicke Kabamba managed to get one-on-one with Budd, after some good work in midfield. However, this time the keeper was up to the task and blocked Nicke's attempt.
The game was meandering to its close as Charlie Moone's shot from the edge of the box forced a save from Budd; deep in injury time, the striker back heeled the ball into the net from close range, but unfortunately he'd drifted offside and it was ruled out.
The final whistle came almost immediately and it left the Beavers top of the league and looking to Saturday's away trip to Tonbridge, this being a pretty important match for Dowse and the Boys.
