Safety assured through Collins late strike
The Beavers confirmed their place in the Ryman Premier League with a 1-0 win over already relegated Bury Town thanks to a late Tom Collins goal.
A swirling cross wind made life difficult for both teams, and on 11 minutes, Charlie Moone looked to have broken the offside trap but the wind held up the long ball and the Bury defence managed to clear the danger before the ball could drop.
Bury were playing their part and on 15 minutes, Russell Short tested Hampton keeper Seb Brown with a first time shot but it flew straight at Brown.
Hampton had the best chance of the first half on the half hour as Duncan Culley met Jerome Federico's pinpoint cross, but his header flew well wide.
The second half was pretty uninspiring as Bury defended stubbornly and neither side appeared to have enough of a cutting edge to break through the defensive ranks, although Duncan Culley will be disappointed to send another header wide on 73 minutes.
Jerome Federico was trying to open up the Bury defence and his cross on 77 minutes, put Archer under pressure as Duncan Culley challenged for the header, but his punch was strong enough to take it away from danger
The Beavers then started to dominate play and with 5 minutes to go, Tom Collins managed to find a half yard and fired his shot from the edge of the box right at keeper Alex Archer, the keeper managing to block the attempt.
With just 2 minutes left on the watch, the Beavers managed to settle the match and secure their place. Kieran Murphy retrieved an overhit cross, and crossed it back into the box. The ball eventually fell to Collins, who calmly sidefooted home from 6 yards despite calls for offside from the Bury defenders.
Next week sees a journey to relegation threatened Peacehaven & Telscombe, who have to win to have any chance of staying in the Ryman Premier.
