Beavers rocked at East Thurrock
The Beavers went to Rookery Hill to face an East Thurrock side needing to get something from the match but they lost to a late Cornhill header.
The Rooks had not won in 6 matches, home and away, and were without leading scorer Sam Higgins as well but despite the Beavers' hard work in defence, they couldn't hold on for a precious point.
The Beavers had most of the early pressure and on 16 minutes, Charlie Moone's header had to be clawed away by David Hughes in the East Thurrock goal. A minute later, Moussa Diarra used his tall frame well and managed to get a header in, which had to be hurriedly cleared off the line by the Rocks.
3 minutes later, the Beavers had cause to be thankful as debutant keeper Seb Brown had to react quickly to push away a Manny Osei header after the defence lost a bouncing ball in the box.
In a match with few incidents, a missed free kick by the Beavers counted as a chance, but in the final minute of the first half, Osei was able to get another header in but it ran well past the post.
The second half wasn't much different as neither side looked to have a much of an edge in the final third, although Duncan Culley was managing to get noticed with his link up play.
The keepers were under employed because of that, with Diarra and Collins putting chances wide and then Lewis Smith for the hosts blazing the ball over the bar from a narrow angle.
With 10 minutes to go, it looked like the Beavers might return home with a hard earned point but the hosts managed to create a few minutes of pressure that was to undo the team.
Some frantic defending in the Hampton 6 yard box saw the Rocks have at least 3 blocked attempts but it was eventually cleared. The ball was then worked by the Rocks to the Beavers left, finding Ross Parmenter. His cross into the middle was met by the almost unmarked Max Cornhill, and his header flew across the wrong footed Brown and into the net.
East Thurrock could have just about got a second a few minutes later, as Smith fired in a powerful shot but Brown stood tall and managed to beat the drive away as the Beavers couldn't find the space to create a chance in the remaining time.
