Beavers wobble after Jelley's strike
The Beavers squandered chances to win the game and paid in the second half as the hosts gathered their first win of 2015.
With the return of Mark Onyemah, Tom Jelley stepped up into midfield and in the first half, the Beavers appeared to be the better team for it.
Jelley was involved in most of the early play; first forcing a save from home keeper Nick Blue on 7 minutes, then almost immediately afterwards, he set up Charlie Moone with a cross from the right, whose close range shot was well saved by Blue.
Jake Rose's first time volley from the edge of the box following a poor clearance had to be blocked by a charging Vickers defender and it seemed only time before the Beavers would score.
After George Wells had curled a left foot cross just past the far post, the Beavers did take the lead on 29 minutes.
Jamie Calvin's neat through ball found Jelley making a clever run inside the full back, and the midfielder was able to make the finish look easy as he slotted it past Blue.
The Vickers hadn't really threatened keeper Mark Smith but on 37 minutes, a James Duckworth free kick had the young keeper diving full length to cover the shot as it flew past the post.
Just before the break, it could have two up to the Beavers, as Kieran Murphy's accurate header had to be cleared off the line with the keeper stranded.
The hosts came out stronger in the second half and the Beavers were given a warning on 48 minutes as VCD had the ball in the net but the goal was disallowed through the assistants offside flag.
10 minutes later though, the Vickers did get their equaliser and it brought back unhappy memories for the fans who saw the first game at the Oakwood. A corner from the VCD right was met at the back post, and Mark Smith was able to block the point-blank header, but he was unable to prevent Lea Dawson from prodding the ball home from a few yards out.
Dowse chose to roll the dice and brought on Tom Collins for Jamie Calvin and Ben Osman for Kevant Serbony, and it nearly paid off on 76 minutes as Collins found himself in the box with the ball. His prodded shot from close range hit keeper Nick Blue's feet and rolled away before anyone in a red shirt could get to the rebound.
5 minutes later, Blue came to the Vickers rescue again. Paris Mason's cross from the right found Moone with enough space for a glancing header which looked to be going inside the post, but the keeper clawed it away for a corner to prevent the Beavers top scorer from adding to his season's total.
With 5 minutes left, Mason's shot from the edge of the box flew over the bar with the home defence scrambling like ducks on an ice rink, but it was the Beavers last chance and deep in added time, VCD made them pay.
A free kick conceded on the left hand side was flighted in by Duckworth, a couple of shots were cleared desperately by the Beavers but the third attempt, by Dawson, was stabbed home again from close range to leave the Beavers with nothing from a game they needed to avoid losing.
