Another Blue day for Beavers
A dull, drab, featureless game at Beveree saw the Angels sneak away with the points, thanks to a Laurence Ball goal late in the first half.
A featureless game at Beveree saw the Angels sneak away with the points, although in truth neither team looked really worthy of it.
After a lacklustre opening 15 minutes, Tonbridge began to create an opening or two; on 18 minutes, Dee Okojie's free kick only just drifted over the bar.
The Beavers were struggling to get anything in the final third of the pitch and on 23 minutes, they nearly paid for that as Okojie latched onto Marvin Williams' overhead pass and slotted the ball past keeper Mark Smith, but the linesman ruled it out for offside.
The nearest the Beavers came to a goal in the first half was with Jake Rose's free kick midway through the half, but it was straight at Blues keeper Kyle Merson, who caught it easily.
Just before the half hour, Joe Taylor fired wide across Smith but Tonbridge finally got their goal on 38 minutes as Laurence Ball got on the end of a free kick to half volley it past Smith from close range.
In the second half, Hampton tried to ring the changes, bringing on Marcus Johnson-Schuster and Ben Hunt for Matt Drage and Julian Owusu at the start but Tonbridge held firm with the Beavers not being able to create any serious chances.
Charlie Moone came close as he screwed a shot wide early in the half as he found space down the left hand side of the box, but the shot came off his foot badly and skewed wide.
Jake Rose had a couple of attempts later on in the half, first on 77 minutes with a shot from distance that was just too high, and then a couple of minutes later, he hit a first time shot from a long cross that went straight at Merson.
In the end, neither keeper was further threatened and it turned into a vital win for the Blues as Hampton couldn't break through a stubborn defensive line to force an equaliser.
