Beavers take point at K's.
A battling performance in the rain gave the Beavers a hard earned point at Kingsmeadow against a Kingstonian team that can't win at home.
The first half was a dour affair with Kingstonian having the possession but doing little with that possession, thanks to the sterling efforts of the youthful Beavers back four.
Charlie Moone fired well over early on, but the only chance of note went to the hosts as Beavers keeper Mark Smith palmed over a fierce Pelayo Pico-Gomez volley from the angle of the box, just on half time.
After the break, with Ben Harris replacing Tom Collins, the game began to liven up and the Beavers defence had to step up as the K's began to create opportunities.
On 54 minutes, an almighty scramble in the Beavers box saw at least one shot cleared off the line before the ball was cleared; 3 minutes later, Elvis Hammond's shot had to be hacked behind by Matt Drage from close range and from the resulting corner, Drage was on hand again to block a header on the goal line, the loose ball finally dropping into Smith's hands.
On the hour, the thin red line was broken, as Hammond turned his marker, and fired in a shot from a narrow angle; Smith managed to save that attempt, but the rebound fell back to Hammond, and he buried the rebound from that narrow angle.
The lead didn't last long for the K's as Ben Harris managed to win a free-kick not far from the edge of their penalty area. He stepped up and skilfully curled it around the wall, beating Rob Tolfrey's dive as it flew inside the post.
Neither team could create further chances and in the end, despite the hosts share of the possession, a draw wasn't a bad result for the Beavers. No doubt Dowse will be more happier with the result than his counterpart, Tommy Williams, who must wonder what he must do to get more results on his own turf.
