Beavers left with no Peace
Ryman Premier League new boys, Peacehaven & Telscombe turned out to be too much for the Beavers on a wet and blustery night at Beveree.
The visitors took the lead on 12 minutes, as the Hampton midfield lost possession. The ball was moved out to Jones, and his cross found Burton in the box. The striker's shot was parried by Mark Smith, but the rebound rolled into the path of Gatting, and he made no mistake from 8 yards.
The Beavers came back into the game with Nick Bignell having the clearest chances. On 25 minutes, his first time shot was tipped wide by di Bernardo; 10 minutes later, his shot from the edge of the box flew over the bar, propelled by the wind.
Deep in added time, Bignall was played through and used his pace to clear the defence, but once again, di Bernardo was equal to it and got a touch on Bignall's shot to push it wide.
The Beavers best chance came just 3 minutes into the second half. A George Wells free kick was met at the back post by Bignall, his header back found Charlie Moone in front of goal, but the striker skied the ball over from inside the six yard box.
Peacehaven were using the conditions and just after the hour, they extended their lead. A lofted corner to the back post caught the wind and found captain Ash Jones unmarked at the back post and his firm header from 6 yards gave Smith no chance.
The introduction of Ben Harris added an edge to the Beavers play and on 68 minutes, he nearly got the opening goal for Hampton. A volley on the turn crashed against the bar and it looked as though the chance had gone.
3 minutes later, the Beavers did score and it was Harris that broke the duck. Tom Collins made space on the left and beat the defender to the bye-line. His cross into the box found Harris in space, and his header looped into the opposite corner of the net.
Peacehaven were in no mood to let the Beavers back into the game and just 7 minutes after Harris's goal, Tom Burton wrapped up the game with a cool finish from close range to make it 3-1.
In the last few minutes, Peacehaven could've made it 4 as Knee timed his run well to meet a through ball on the edge of the box; but Mark Smith narrowed the angle and blocked the midfielder's attempt from 12 yards.
