Moone double takes Beavers upward and onwards
Double from Charlie Moone sets up the Beavers for a win in front of the biggest crowd since Maidstone Utd last season.
Two goals inside the first 15 minutes set the game up for the Beavers. but the Vickers made a fight of it in the second half and the last 15 minutes were nervy for the home team.
The Vickers weren't helped by being caught in traffic on their way to the game, arriving at Beveree at 2-40pm. After the match, VCD manager Tony Russell was not happy about the lack of warm up time allowed by the official, Dave Bushell.
The Beavers had most of the first half as a result of this and took the lead on just 8 minutes as Charlie Moone picked up a woefully short back pass, and slipped under keeper Nick Blue from close range.
Hampton doubled their lead on 15 minutes with a great finish by the in-form striker. Controlling a defensive header on his chest, Moone's instinctive volley from 25 yards flew over Blue and dipped under the bar leaving the keeper helpless.
VCD were finding their lack of preparation against them, and the game could have been out their sight on 25 minutes, as Moone was brought down in the area, the referee giving the spot kick with no hesitation.
Moone stepped up to take the kick but Nick Blue went the right way and pushed the well taken spot kick away to his right hand side and the Vickers could breathe more easy.
Karl Dent found himself in space on 36 minutes, as he picked up a pass from Grant Basey in the middle but the shot was disappointing and it went wide.
The visitors halved the deficit after just 47 minutes as Leigh Bremner managed to get on the end of a looping cross to hit a crisp overhead kick past Ronnie Worster.
VCD took heart from the goal, and Worster was kept very busy, making saves in quick sucession; Dent's driven shot was tipped over the bar, then he pushed Dawson's header round the post for a corner.
On 55 minutes, the Vickers thought they'd got their deserved equaliser as Bremner poked the ball home for close range, but he was in an offside position, much to his disappointment.
The Beavers slowly edged back into the game and held on for the win but they nearly got ambushed with 10 minutes to go as Lea Dawson managed to get on the end of a Bremner cross, but his diving header went past the post.
After the match, it was revealed that one of the debutants, Alex Przespolewicki, had had to be taken to hospital with a suspected fractured foot.
