Not all Wraight on the night for the Beavers
The sorry start to the season continued for the Beavers as Witham claimed the points to send them to their third defeat.
After Tuesday night's display it was hoped the Beavers could regain some confidence against newly promoted Witham but the second half again was not a display the players will want to remember, as Witham's Tom Wraight scored twice to send the team to their latest loss.
On 3 minutes, Ben Harris nearly got lucky as his shot cum cross spun off the angle of post and bar to fly over Witham keeper Martin Guest, and fall toward the goal, but a retreating defender manged to block the ball back to Guest.
Witham couldn't get into their stride early on and Charlie Moone was guilty of missing three chances within 10 minutes, any of which could have been converted to give the striker a boost.
After Michael Bryan had fired a shot only just over, the Beavers took the lead on 33 minutes.
As Ben Harris jumped for a bouncing ball on the edge of the box, he was given a nudge in the back and the referee immediately gave the spot kick. Moone stepped up and coolly placed the shot to Guest's left, the keeper going the other way.
Witham came out with more purpose and duly equalised early in the second half as from a free kick, Lewis Godbold took advantage of some slack marking to nod home past Carter.
5 minutes later, Harris scored a beautiful goal as he beat 2 defenders, collected a one-two and then buried the shot past Guest.
The lead lasted no more than a minute as once again, inattention at the back cost the Beavers. Witham's Tom Wraight was left in space to flick a header from a cross from the right, past Carter.
Ben Harris has been one of the bright spots of the season so far, and on 78 minutes won his second penalty of the match as he was brought down inside the box. Charlie Moone stepped up and chose to blast the kick; but the direction was slightly off, it hit the bar and bounced away, and how the Beavers would rue that miss!
3 minutes later, Witham took the lead. Hampton conceded a free kick just outside the box, Wraight stepped up to curl the shot around the wall and into the back of the net, giving Carter no chance.
Witham wrapped up the game in added time as confusion between Max Hustwick and Carter let Leon Antoine bully his way between them and prod the ball into an unguarded net.
Things get no easier for the Beavers as they travel to early league leaders Maidstone United on Tuesday night.
