No joy for Beavers in Jacob Sylvester Trophy
By Rob Overfield
A wet afternoon ends in defeat for Beavers
A 44th minute finish from the Ammies' Ritchie Allen proved the difference between the two teams, as Dowse was left with more questions than answer after this performance at a wet Beveree this afternoon.
After a pretty even first 15 minutes, Salford picked up the pace and on 25 minutes, Phenix almost took advantage of a midfield mistake to get through on goal but the shot was well wide.
Just before the half hour, Brendan Kiernan made a solo run into the box but Salford keeper Crocombe blocked the attempt.
With 10 minutes to go before the break, another error in the midfield let Phenix in once more, but this time he dragged it past the post.
With a minute to go before the break, Allen received the ball inside the box, and with a crisp turn, fired the ball past Sam Howes.
Salford in the second half prevented the Beavers from creating a clear chance while creating their own through Dieseruvwe midway through the 45 minutes.
It wasn't until 10 mins to the end before the Beavers created something, Max Kretzschmar's free kick being deflected for a corner, which was fruitless, and left the Ammies to see out time.
