Beavers scare Young Eagles
The Beavers completed their home series of friendlies at Beveree with another good performance, this time against a young Palace XI.
It was a bright start for the Beavers as Justyn Roberts opened the scoring on 9 minutes after a Jesse Kewley-Graham corner was missed by everyone, including the keeper, leaving the defender with a tap home.
The lead didn't last for the Beavers as Ammon Bissaka took advantage of a mixup in the Hampton defence to side-foot home from close range just two minutes later.
Midway through the first half, Luke Wanadio tricked his way down the right hand side, beating the defender; his cross was met by Ben Harris, but the shot was too high, and flew over the bar.
The Palace side showed its class on the half hour as Coker found space between defenders, leaving him with a one on one with Tyler Tobin. The shot hit the inside of the post and rolled across goal, thankfully there wasn't an Eagle following up and the ball was cleared.
Just before the half time break, Harris beat the last defender and clipped a first time shot past the onrushing keeper, the ball dribbled agonisingly wide of the right hand post, much to the striker's despair.
In the second half, the game produced little of note until the Young Eagles took the lead on 72 minutes, Jason Akiotu found space on the left and then beat Tobin at the near post with a driven shot from 18 yards.
Hampton came back into the game 7 minutes later as substitute Billy Adcock picked up a loose ball just inside the box, and placed his shot just past keeper Ollie Pain left hand into the net.
Palace had the final word on 82 minutes as Ben Wynter controlled a headed clearance from a corner and volleyed past Tobin into the roof of the net from just outside the area.
The Beavers came very close to snatching a draw with the last move of the game. A corner from the left deceived everyone bar Max Hustwick at the back post but he couldn't quite get enough on the ball and it missed the post from about 3 yards.
