Beavers not Stung by Bees
The Beavers started their home preseason campaign with a sound display against a Brentford FC Development squad.
Right from the start, Hampton were not afraid to take the game to their youthful opponents and on 6 minutes, Jerome Federico made enough space down the right to get in a sharp cross, showing what he was capable of.
The luck that the Beavers didn't see last season came to their rescue immediately after. Montell Moore's long range lob looked to have beaten Milan Stojsavljevic, the ball appearing to be well over the line before the young keeper clawed it away. However, the assistant didn't signal the goal and with the referee not having a view, play had continue.
Moore was proving to be a threat and twice forced Stojsavljevic into smart saves as the Bees looked to be the first to score. Trialist Christian Lagos had his chance on 33 minutes with Max Hustwick having to challenge to block the goal bound shot.
It was the Beavers who took the lead, however, as Ben Harris managed to slip free from O'Shaughnessy and smartly bury the shot past Mark Smith in the Bees goal.
The lead lasted no more than a minute as Lagos took advantage of a slip by Max Hustwick to pick up the ball and round Stojsavljevic to sidefoot home.
The usual preseason friendly 'cavalry charge' of second half substitutions by the Beavers included the introduction of Ben Osman, Gareth Chendlik, Billy Jeffreys and Charlie Moone.
Chendlik was relishing playing with Moone, and on 54 minutes, the young striker fired a shot that was only just wide of Smith's post.
The Beavers picked up their game and it became a more even contest, with both teams testing the respective keepers, Moone for Hampton and Zain Westbrook for the visitors.
With just 15 minutes to go, the Beavers created a golden chance as Moone played in Chendlik, who was in space on the left, but his shot flew well over.
It was then Brentford's turn to miss a chance with 10 minutes left as Niall Doran forced a great save from substitute keeper Tyler Tobin, the rebound fell to Tom Owens whose attempt dribbled off his toe and trickled well wide.
After Chendlik had had another shot deflected wide and Khayne's shot missed the target as time ran out, both teams could reflect on an productive evening with positives to take forward into their respective seasons.
