OUR intrepid media officer Rob Overfield aims to walk through the night next month to help the ongoing battle against cancer.
It’s a cause close to his heart after losing a close friend to the illness this year and also finding out that, within the family of our club, another friend is fighting it.
He has resolved to do something to make a difference by undertaking the Cancer Research Shine Night Walk on September 23 and has pledged to raise £500.
The club has encouraged him to hold a bucket collection in the home match against Dartford next Saturday (September 1), to further boost the amount.
Later that evening, there will be a fund-raising event, with a difference. Clive Stevens and the people behind Legare Lumiere have kindly offered to host a Secret Silent Cinema night to help.
This is a Secret Silent Pop Up Outdoor Cinema venue in a private back garden in Staines. Its sole purpose is to raise money for local charities in the area each year.
The silent bit means that patrons (up to 100 of them) are supplied with headphones, so there are no problems for those at the back. Seating is on a single level, but because the screen is so you will have a great view wherever you sit.
Chairs can be provided, but a picnic option is available where you can bring your own food and seats. There is a charge of £1 for headphone hire.
Tickets are sold through TicketSource with a booking fee of £1 for a £10 ticket.
Overall profit for the charity will be around 65% of ticket sales, at £10 per ticket.
Legare Lumiere has this year staged four events and raised more than £1,700 for local charities.
Rob said: “I would like to thank Clive at Legare Lumiere for hosting this for me and for Cancer Research.
Hopefully, the weather will be on our side. If not, the back-up date is Sunday (September 3).”
The film to be shown will be decided by ticket holders on the night, but it will be one suitable for a family audience.
Please come along and have a night at the movies and all for Cancer Research.
Rob will be announcing further events nearer the 23rd.
If you want to contribute, but can’t be at the game or the Silent Cinema night, then please consider donating directly at Rob's Cancer Research Fundraising page here,
Thank s for your support.
