Tarpey (p)

Att:
By Keith Hussey

OIt was very one-sided 1st half with Hampton dominating with Matt in goal not having too much to trouble him. As early as the 3rd minute the impressive Dave Tarpey made a lightning turn striking a powerful shot that beat the keeper but came back off the post - with Levi King just unable to wrap his foot around the rebound.  Tarpey then fed Jesse on the wing who delivered a low dangerous cross which was turned away. Tarpey could not be kept out of the action and his pace caused constant problems. In one breakaway we had 3 v 1 with the ball ending at Yarnie's feet but the keeper came out to block - and though Yarnie went down no penalty was given...probably correctly. Levi King struck a free-kick low and hard on the half hour mark beating the wall...but the keeper did well to turn the ball away for a corner. The Ash defence then gifted a chance to Robbie Kember but again the keeper was equal to the strike. As half time approached Craig Tanner was allowed to make a forward run and as no challenge was forthcoming tried his luck from distance - again the keeper gathered. Jesse Atiase had to come off with a slight strain replaced by Marcello who played right wing for the last couple of minutes.

H-T 0-0

Subs made at H-T - Davies on for Lovett and Damali on for Tanner. Marcello slotted in at left back with Damali at right wing - and an impressive 45 mins he put in showing pace and strength on the ball. Levi put in a shot from distance which troubled the keeper who just managed to grab the ball before Tarpey followed up. Again Hampton were dominating the ball and at last were rewarded when Robbie Kember went on a run into the area where he was upended - no doubting the penalty decision. Tarpey stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way to go 1-0 up. His reward ? to be subbed along with Yarnie and King - giving the 3 remaining subs a chance to impress. Ali and Collewijn went up front and Collewijn took his place on the wing. As is often the case the changes disrupted the way we were playing and Ash took advantage with an equaliser. The Ash player managed to brush off the challenge from the Hampton player - and curled the ball into the far corner...giving Davies no chance...a good strike. After the equaliser we really only created two chances of note. The first was when Dean Inman passed sweetly to Pat Damali who put in a pass perfectly weighted to Collewijn. He slipped the ball past the keeper but was denied by the post and then saw the ball run across the line hitting the other post before being cleared away. Our final chance when Steve Tyson hit a shot with power but went narrowly by the goal.
