Farnborough 2 v 3 Reserves

The Reserves made it 10 games unbeaten with a hard fought victory at Farnborough on Wednesday night.  The 3 week lay off showed as the side struggled from the start, giving possession away cheaply and finding themselves under pressure.  Sloppy defending saw Farnborough take the lead, the ball given away easily and then 3 missed tackles left the Farnborough 10 with a simple finish past Stojsavlejevic in the Hampton goal.  Hampton woke up after this and began to play the better football, creating a couple of half chances before good interplay between Turner, Halls, Sousa Mota and Bennett eventually found Jacob Peace in space and he finished with a great strike into the top corner from 18 yards.  Hampton finished the half stronger without hitting the heights of the previous performances. Jacob Peace was a constant threat and some superb runs and crosses could have resulted in the second goal for Hampton.

The second half Hampton never really got going and again found themselves behind when a Farnborough midfielder was given too much space and his excellent strike from distance swerved to leave Stojsavlejevic wrong footed.  Hampton again upped the pressure without any real quality.  Farnborough were reduced to 10 men with 15 left and the extra space allowed Hampton to dominate the final period.  The equaliser came after excellent pressure from Jerome Paul in the corner won the ball back and eventually worked to Jermiele Johnson who beat his marker and then the keeper at the second attempt.  The winning goal came in the final minutes and again was a result of excellent pressure this time from Connor Bloomfield who after forcing a poor pass then pressured a poor touch before nicking the ball away and being brought down for a penalty.  Gustavo Sousa Mota then sent the keeper the wrng way to give Hampton another 3 points that ut them into 4th and within touching distance of the top of the table.

Good performances from Jerome Paul, Jacob Peace and Nathan Antwi who on as a sub gave a Farnborough 1st Team Defender a tough half which for a 16 year old was an excellent showing.

This Saturday the reserves have a League Cup tie at Met Police before visiting Molesey next Wednesday in the Challenge Shield which will give the Academy stand out players a chance to step up to Senior Football.
