Beavers gritty display earns win
Despite losing right back Lewis Ferrell after an hour, the Beavers held firm to pinch all the points against a Bromley side that promised much but delivered little, writes Rob Overfield
In an enforced change, Paul Johnson came into the squad for James Simmonds, Dean Inman started in place of Billy Jeffreys, who was relegated to the bench and in addition, Tom Hickey took the number 6 shirt ahead of Karle Andrews.
In contrast to the opening on Saturday, the Beavers started brighter, and on 3 minutes the Beavers took the lead. Dave Tarpey picked up the ball on the left and lobbed it forward towards Ledgister who was lurking on the corner of the box. Ledgister's glancing header looped high over Forecast in the Bromley goal and dropped into the net, for a surprising lead.
The lead was extended on 18 minutes, with as good a finish you'll ever see. Nathan Collier was revelling in some space on the left and fired a grass trimming cross into the box. Bromley's Taylor, sprinting back, couldn't help but finish into the bottom corner from about 15 yards, leaving Forecast helpless.
Not used to a two goal lead, the Beavers sat back a little, and allowed Bromley back into the game. Bromley almost took advantage on 40 minutes, forcing a goal line clearance from JJ O'Donnell, with Ross beaten. The Beavers paid the penalty just before the break as a Tom Hickey hesitation in midfield allowed the Bromley midfield to win the ball and surge into the box, and after a bit of a scramble, Hakeem Araba buried past Craig Ross to halve the deficit.

The opening part of the second half was pretty even until the 59th minute when Lewis Ferrell was booked for a rash challenge in which he himself required attention. A minute later, on his return to the pitch, the official immediately stopped the game and cautioned Ferrell for a second time, thus giving him a red card and dismissed him from the pitch. It was all confusing and discombobulating for some moments as it was difficult it was hard to see what the second card had been for. After the game Ferrell stated that he'd seen a signal to return to the pitch from the referee, and that the referee denied he'd done so.
The team rearranged itself, with Collier retreating to the vacant right back position.
From here on, the game was full of Bromley's relentless pressurising and on 64 minutes, it looked as though they would be able to level the scores as Smith went down under a heavy challenge from Dean Inman on the edge of the box, however the official decreed the challenge had been outside the box. The free kick was wasted.
As time ticked away, the Beavers held firm at the back, Tom Hickey making amends for his error for the goal with a saving tackle, stopping Araba from pulling the trigger from 12 yards.
With just a handful of minutes left, Dave Tarpey managed to wriggle free down the left after a delightful Huggins pass, but his goalbound shot was bumped wide for the corner by Forecast.
That was the end of the action as the Beavers took a somewhat unexpected win, but the fighting display after Ferrell's dismissal meant that in the end, it was deserved.
