he club is saddened by the news of the recent death, on January 19th in Tunbridge Wells hospital, of club stalwart Bob Tomlin, aged 93.
Bob played for the club in the 1940's and early 50's during their time at Hatherop Rec.
Bob retired as a player in 1955 and was appointed Honorary Secretary of the club with special responsibilities to take over all negotiations with the Town Clerk at Twickenham Council with respect to gaining the Beveree lease for the club.
When the lease came up for tender, Hampton FC were successful and took over the ground from Twickenham FC in 1959. Bob was also responsible for designing the club badge (still in use today).
In 1977 Bob retired as Hon, Sec., having filled the post for 23 years and was appointed a Life Member of Hampton FC. Despite being retired Bob was not content to rest, instead he set up a Waste Paper Collection Service on behalf of the club and continued to raise money for the club until 2005. In total Bob collected some 1,160 tons of paper, mostly computer print.
Although suffering from dementia in his final years, he continued to attend games right up to November 2010, after which he moved to East Sussex to be near his family.
His funeral service will be held on Thursday February 2nd, at the Kent & Sussex Crematorium, Tunbridge Wells, at 3.30pm.
The club's deepest condolences are extended to the family.
