Hampton & Richmond Borough U18’s fight hard to win a nine goal thriller against Northwood FC

Hampton came back from a 2-0 deficit after the break to win 5-4 against Northwood FC. Two late goals ensured the win for Hampton.

Early action came in the first minute of the game when Northwood won a penalty. Ali Alanezi was brought down in the box. Ollie Lawrence stepped up to take to the penalty but shot over the bar. Hampton was lucky to get away with that early on.
Northwood carried on applying early pressure Simon Clarcin had a powerful shot inside the box and Dominic Bombourg was able to palm it away.
Hampton’s first big opportunity of the night fell to Dylan Randall. A lovely weighted through ball from Jamie Hope found Randall one on one with the keeper. His low shot was saved by the keeper.
On the 30 minute mark, Northwood made it 1-0. A free kick just outside the box was placed into the top left corner from Clarcin.
Just before the break, the visitors solidified their lead by making it 2-0. Kilae Crockwell scored following a corner. There was a scramble in the box in which Crockwell managed to poke it in net.
Northwood went into the break deserved leaders. Hampton hadn't found their flow yet and needed to regain focus.
Following the half time talk, Hampton managed to change drastically in the second half. Three goals were scored in the first 15 minutes to give Hampton the lead. Randall played a nice ball into the box where Theo Clayton side-footed the ball in the net. On the 52nd minute, Hampton won a penalty. Randall was taken out in the box after a great run of pace forced the defender to make a tackle. Randall stepped up to take the penalty and sent the keeper the wrong way to make it 2-2. Charlie Jaggers scored a fortunate third goal. The ball was sent into the box from a corner, the initial header defected of Jaggers and into the next.
Another quick succession of goals saw Northwood take the lead 4-3. In the 64th minute, David Levy headed in the ball from across. In the 69th minute, Levy scored again following a well-weighted through ball, slotting the ball into the bottom right corner.
Hampton makes their first substitute with Jack Yelle coming off for Sonny Cambridge. 10 minutes later Hampton makes another change with Clayton coming off for Benjamin Gyan.
Gyan made an immediate impact with a surging run down the wing, his cross wasn't cleared well by the Northwood defence and Jamie Hope ran onto the ball with a beautiful first-time finish outside of the box to make it 4-4.
In the dying minutes of the game, Hampton made it 5-4. Hope dribbled the ball down the middle of the pitch, great control made a defender fall over, Hope then finished calmly into the bottom right corner.
Full time finished 5-4. Hampton produced a great second half performance, showing how much fight they have in them.
