Dylan strikes late to give Beavers replay
Academy star Dylan Randall saves the Beavers blushes with a late, late goal...
Heybridge Swifts nearly caused an upset against the Beavers, but deep in added time, 16 year old Dylan Randall struck a fairytale finish for his first senior goal to send this first round tie to a replay at Heybridge.
The Beavers started the game on the front foot, with Max Kretzschmar's first minute shot drifting wide, clipping the post as it went. The home team continued to stay in control with chances on a regular basis as the Swifts settled into repelling the Beavers's best efforts, Swifts keeper Danny Sambridge having to make at least 5 or 6 good saves as Hampton showed demonstrated why they are 3rd in the National League South.
It was a only a matter of time before the goal was scored, but it went right against the run of play as a cross from Heybridge's Joe Gardner from the right was deflected into his own net by Charlie Wassmer.
Hampton continued to press with Sambridge having to make saves from Harry Crawford, Kretzschmar and Taurean Roberts but the Swifts goal remained intact.
The Swifts had to continue to defend as Hampton continued to have the better of the game, with Roberts and Brendan Kiernan giving the full backs Ramon and Stevenson a difficult time.
Heybridge, despite the pressure, were only too willing to attack Hampton on the break as Joe Gardner and then Luke Callender tried to force a save from keeper Sam Howes, but they couldn't get a shot on target. Lewis Godbold came the nearest for the visitors but his free kick was over the bar.
Just after the hour, Roberts almost got the Beavers back on terms, his shot beat Sambridge but clipped the bar on its way over.
Hampton were looking like having to stomach a disappointing exit from the Trophy, despite all their efforts, but in the second minute of the 4 added, substitute Randall latched on to a Kiernan pass on the edge of the area, catching it sweetly on the half volley.
The shot flew through the crowded box and beat Sambridge to earn Hampton a very difficult replay on Tuesday night.
