The Beavers move on to the 2nd round in the SSE Women’s FA Cup
A Great win for the Beavers against QPR Development.
A game that was bound to be tough from the start, Hampton faced a strong opposition and were still waiting on the bulk of our squad to return from summer break. With only a starting 11 to take to the 1st Round FA Cup Qualifier, against a QPR Development team that had strong cup experience from winning the league cup last season.
The Beavers had ample opportunities in the first half, which could easily have led to a stronger goal advantage. Taking full advantage of the opposition’s youth and the Beavers strength, Hampton took the early lead with a goal from a perfectly curled in cross from a corner,
QPR were strong on the attack which kept the Beavers active, our goalkeeper made some critical saves and was put to the test against a very strong team, but we stayed composed and dug deep to keep a 1-0 lead going into the second half.
During the interval between halves the Beavers knew they could do better, the lady’s took to the pitch and knew what had to be done. The defense had a strong game, tracking back to break QPR’s attacks on the wings and taking control of the ball when needed, forcing play up field.
QPR had some golden opportunities on goal with their strong attacks, but luck was not on their side which allowed Hampton & Richmond Ladies to take the win and move on to the next round.
Captain, Kate Foster said:
"Really proud of the team today. Everyone put a huge shift in and we worked hard as a team. Some excellent link up play, keeper and defense were solid, and not to mention only having a bare 11 players with debut new additions too. Things are coming together nicely and I'm very excited for the season ahead. Thanks so much for the supporters who traveled to watch too!"
