Dowse unhappy with Concord defeat

The Beavers 'awful' display means 2 defeats in last 3 matches

A limp and anaemic display by the Beavers let in the Beachboys, whose 61st minute goal was the difference between the teams. In fact, if you'd asked a neutral to identify the team in 3rd place in the table, the Beavers might not have been their first choice.

It was a scrappy start to the half as Hampton couldn't get any rhythm or dominance going and could have so easily have gone behind very early as Beachboys captain Steve Cawley had time and space in the centre of the box to fire in a shot which turned in to an easy Seny Dieng save.

The game hadn't even reached 15 minutes when the Beachboys squandered another chance on goal, this time Lewis Taafe dragged his shot wide from the edge of the box.

60 seconds later, the Beavers finally did create a chance. Bradley Hudson-Odoi managed to peel off his marker and find some space to pick up a pass, and he fired off a shot in which keeper Louis Wells stood tall to parry away.

Just after the half hour, Max Kretzschmar's header looked as if it might end up on target but it landed on the roof of the net to Wells' relief. Not long afterwards, Hudson-Odoi once more cut in off his left foot to fire in a shot on target but Wells took it easily.

With 5 minutes to the break, although with his back to goal in the box, Taafe managed to turn Sam Long and fire a shot in towards goal which drifted wide, and although some supporters tried to call for a penalty for a foul on the midfielder, the referee, and quite rightly wasn't in the least bit interested.

The Beavers' best chance came in first half stoppage time as Charlie Wassmer came up at the back post to connect with a long Kretzschmar corner, but he wasn't quite able to get the chance on target and it hit the post.

The second half started no better than the first and on the hour, the hosts snatched a vital goal. Ben Greenhalgh got past Ben Wynter to cross the ball into the box and Cawley was left with the easiest of headers past Dieng, having lots of time to pick his spot under no pressure.

The Beavers were clearly misfiring across a lot of the pitch but inside the final 15 minutes, they almost snatched a scarcely-deserved equaliser.

A free kick some 25 yards out was taken by Shaun Jeffers; the shot beat the wall and the keeper but bounced off the bar to safety as the Beachboys were looking to hold on, despite everything the Beavers tried.

Charlie Wassmer had another attempt from a Kretzschmar corner inside the last 10 minutes, but this time the header was wide of the post.

It could so easy have been a late second goal for the hosts as substitute Ighorae found himself with a clear chance on goal, facing Dieng on the edge of the box, but the keeper blocked the shot as the Beavers were struggling to cover.

Deep in in second half stoppage time, Hudson-Odoi had a further chance on goal, but Wells was equal to it and parried the shot away.

Dowse in his post match interview was clearly unhappy about what he'd seen.

"Was awful. I think some of the lads look shot to bits and you can't carry that. Some of them think the season's finished, so I'll have to make a few changes now. I've tried to stay with my tried and trusted, those ones I know will give everything but in the first half we could have been two or three-nil down."

"We didn't win a tackle in midfield, it was pointless going into the final third because we never did anything when we got there."

"So there'll have to be a change of personnel for Tuesday and I'll have to shake a few things about between now and the end of the season."
