Beavers bolster defensive dam with Charlton goalkeeper signing

By HRBFC Press Team

Hampton and Richmond are delighted to announce the loan signing of Ashley Maynard-Brewer from Charlton Athletic until the end of the season.

By Connor Woolley

The 19-year-old Australian national joins the Beavers as a second first team keeper and will look to challenge Tom Lovelock for the number one shirt.

After spending most of the season as Hampton’s only choice, it may also come as some relief to Lovelock, there is now back up in the position.

The journey to the Beveree has been quite something for Maynard-Brewer. Born in St Albans, he moved to Perth as a child only to move back to the UK when he signed for Charlton.

18,000 miles. That’s how far a round trip from London to Perth is.

He was in the youth set up at ECU Joondalup - a local semi-professional club in Perth – where he was coached by former Charlton keeper Andy Petterson.

Petterson recommended Maynard-Brewer to the Addicks and, after a successful week-long trial, he got his place in the Charlton academy.

Just three years later, in an EFL Trophy match against Swansea’s under-21s last November, the youngster made his full first team debut for Charlton.

Impressed by what he had to offer, the Addicks loaned him for a month to National League South rivals Chelmsford City until January. There he shipped six goals in seven games but looked impressive and solid throughout.

With just seven league games to go this season, the semi-final and possible final of the Middlesex senior charity cup, there are still plenty of places up for grabs in Gary McCann’s side.
