Hampton & Richmond Ladies Reserves 0 Godalming Town Dev 4
The Reserves fall to Godalming but take away many positives as the team grows confidence together.
Hampton new this would be a tough game and came ready for a challenge, with Godalming coming prepared with a full bench by their side and Hampton with only the bare 11 it was going to be difficult.
The ladies showed much improvement in their game play and really came together as a team with Captain Becky Payne leading the way. The ladies gave it their all and continue to show get courage, strength and determination every week.
Paul Trowles had this to say:
"We were under no illusions that this game wasn't going to be easy, Godalming have really started the season well & with only the bare 11 available to play, keeping the players injury free & focused was going to be a major part of the game"
The game started with both teams competing at a very fast pace, with every player battling for possession. The game was pretty much even until we were finally beaten for pace from their number 9 who calmly found the back of the net this was then followed by a fine diagonal pass 5 minutes later from Godalming who beat our off-side trap once again making it 2-0 at half time. To be honest apart from the two goals separating the teams we had our chances, we just needed to be more clinical.
Very much the same in the second half, although by now we were tiring and with our opponents refreshing the midfield with the many subs available to them it was inevitable that we would maybe let in a few more goals which we did unfortunately, a cracker from midfield and an own goal from a corner..Just before the final whistle we had a set piece chance to at least ruin the keepers clean sheet but it was just not meant to be.
I couldn't have asked for a more competitive bunch of players today, the improvement is quite clear to see especially the passing and movement, the individual 1v1s and aerial challenges were 50/50..of course there is more work required up front but very pleased with our development..
Player of the match goes to our Captain Becky Payne today who encapsulates everything that for me a player should have. Strength, Courage, Passion, Communication & the willing to help encourage those around her...Top draw
