Statement from Steve McPherson

Following last nights fixture against Sutton I feel it is appropriate for me to comment on the amount of bookings we received last night. Bookings for mistimed tackles are part and parcel of the game and I think everyone accepts that, however, what I won’t accept is the number of cautions we received last night for dissent towards the match officials.
I and the board will not tolerate our players showing dissent and a lack of respect to match officials for the coming season. I will be speaking to Mark Harper this week to make it totally clear to him and the players that we do not want to see a repeat of last night’s actions and individual players will be heavily fined if this occurs again.
As a club we firmly believe in the FA’s respect programme and expect our players to conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times when speaking to match officials and opposition players.
